Our Story: Quality Craft Lumber Since 1998

The Timberline Heritage

Timberline Lumber Company was founded in 1998 in Asheville, North Carolina, by Matt Gryder and Russ Scruggs. What began as a local venture to supply Western North Carolina with high-quality specialty lumber has grown into a trusted wholesale distribution partner for contractors across the Southeast.

For over 25 years, our mission has been simple: to provide the absolute best building materials—from premium tropical hardwoods to reliable domestic framing—backed by the highest quality mills and unmatched service. We remain a family-owned business, dedicated to treating every customer, whether they’re building a backyard deck or a multi-unit development, with the same level of personal attention.

Built on Partnerships, Focused on Quality

Premium Softwoods (1998):Our commitment to quality began with foundational partnerships, including early relationships with mills like Pyramid Lumber in Montana and Ray White Lumber in Arkansas, ensuring a steady stream of high-quality Spruce, Lodgepole Pine, Ponderosa Pine, and Yellow Pine.

Tropical Hardwood Supply (1999):We also maintain one of the Southeast’s largest and most reliable channels of high-quality tropical hardwoods, including Ipe, Cumaru, and Garapa, catering to wholesale volume needs across NC, SC, TN and parts of GA, VA, KY & AL.

Eastern White Pine (2016):We deepened our specialty offerings by partnering with industry leaders like Britton Lumber in New Hampshire, securing the best quality Eastern White Pine for interiors and custom millwork.
