Our domestic softwood lineup covers the most versatile and widely used finish lumber species in the American building tradition. From the warm knotty character of Eastern White Pine to the natural rot resistance of Cypress, these species are the backbone of interior paneling, siding, ceiling treatments, and porch projects across the Southeast.
Our Domestic Softwood Species
Choosing the Right Softwood
Each of our domestic softwood species has a sweet spot:
- Eastern White Pine is the all-around champion for interior paneling, ceilings, and accent walls. Its warm tone, easy workability, and wide range of profiles make it our most popular species by volume.
- Southern Yellow Pine shines in flooring and applications where a bolder, more pronounced grain pattern is desired. Its higher density compared to White Pine gives it better wear resistance underfoot.
- Cypress is the choice for exterior-exposed applications — porch ceilings, soffits, and exterior trim — where natural rot resistance is critical without resorting to tropical hardwoods or chemical treatment.
- Western Red Cedar is the definitive siding and shake species. Its dimensional stability, natural weather resistance, and iconic appearance make it the standard for lap siding and roof shakes.
- Spruce delivers a clean, modern aesthetic with its bright white tone and minimal grain variation. It's ideal for contemporary interiors and takes stain more evenly than pine.
