Timberline Lumber Company has been supplying quality finish lumber to builders, contractors, and homeowners in Western North Carolina since 1998. Founded by Matt Gryder and Russ Scruggs, we started with one simple idea: bring mill-quality softwoods directly to the job site without the big-box markup.
Our Story
In 1998, we partnered with softwood mills in the Connecticut River Valley to begin supplying Eastern White Pine to the Asheville area. The quality of our product and our straightforward approach to business grew quickly by word of mouth.
By 1999, we expanded into tropical hardwoods — Ipe, Cumaru, and Garapa — sourced from sustainable mills in South America. These species quickly became favorites for decking and exterior applications in the mountains of North Carolina.
We're Back to Stocking Lumber
We're proud to announce that we've returned to our stocking program. Our Black Mountain warehouse is once again stocked with a curated selection of finish lumber, tropical hardwoods, and domestic softwoods. That means less waiting and faster turnaround for your project.

Our Mill Partners
We work directly with a select group of mills that share our commitment to quality:
- Ray White Lumber (Arkansas) — Yellow Pine, Arkansas Yellow Pine
- Britton Lumber (Vermont) — Eastern White Pine, Spruce

By working directly with our mill partners, we eliminate the middleman and pass those savings on to you.
