Walnut Boards, Treads and Millwork

Walnut for stair treads, mantels, cap rails, shelves, and custom millwork. Its deep color and natural grain make it a strong choice for feature pieces that need to stand out.

Where it works well

Walnut is often used where one beautiful piece carries the room: cap rails, mantels, stair treads, shelves, furniture-grade boards, and custom millwork. Whole-room flooring can also be discussed when you request a quote.

Color and appearance

Walnut heartwood ranges from chocolate brown to deep purplish-black, with grain that runs straight to gently wavy. Creamy sapwood can be trimmed away for a more uniform look or kept as part of the design. Walnut usually lightens as it ages and sees sunlight.

Feature pieces and millwork

Cap rails, fireplace mantel blanks, stair treads, shelves, and S4S boards are common requests. Include the finished dimensions, edge details, quantity, and sapwood preference so the quote reflects the piece you want to build.

Grades and appearance

Describe the appearance you want for your Walnut project, including knots, color variation, and the faces that will be visible. Include the grade from your plans or the product you want to match. We will confirm the grade, dimensions, and availability with your quote.

Photos

Application illustrations can help you describe the look you want. Captions distinguish general examples from species-specific illustrations.
