Where it works well
Accoya is a quote-path choice when you need real wood outdoors and untreated pine would move or decay too much. Common requests include deck boards, siding and cladding, window and door stock, and other exterior millwork. Unfinished outdoor boards weather gray; through-color Accoya Color Grey can be quoted when you want a gray look from the start.
What acetylation changes
Acetylation is a chemical modification of the wood itself, not a coating and not a conventional pressure treatment. Radiata pine cell walls take up acetyl groups, so the board holds far less moisture. That is why Accoya is much more dimensionally stable and decay-resistant than the same pine before modification. Cutting, planing, or milling does not leave an untreated core.
Where Accoya belongs
Choose Accoya for exterior decks, siding, cladding, windows, doors, and millwork where movement, rot, and long-term coating performance matter. Compare it with tropical hardwoods when you want a lighter, more even pine look instead of dense exotic color, and with cedar when you want more stability than a naturally durable softwood. Confirm the intended exposure with your quote.
Fasteners, finish, and warranties
Use stainless fasteners. Coatings often last longer on Accoya because the substrate moves less; still match the coating to the exposure. Manufacturer durability warranties, often cited as 50 years above ground and 25 years in ground or freshwater, are Accsys product warranties, not Timberline warranties. We confirm suitability, fasteners, finish, and warranty terms with the quote.
Grades and appearance
Accoya is commonly quoted in A1, A2, or finger-jointed appearance grades. Tell us the faces that will be visible and whether you need solid lengths or finger-jointed stock. Include the grade from your plans or the look you want to match. We will confirm the grade, dimensions, and availability with your quote.
