Arkansas Yellow Pine and Southern Yellow Pine

Customers often search for this material under the broader Southern Yellow Pine category. Arkansas Yellow Pine is our program name, not a separate botanical species. Choose flooring for a floor project or surfaced boards for trim and finish work, then confirm dimensions and quantities with the quote.

Choose a profile

For flooring, the usual starting points are 1x4 or 1x6 tongue-and-groove. The planner uses the finished face that remains visible after the boards are installed, rather than the nominal board size:

1x4 T&G flooring

Installed face 3 in. Narrow-strip T&G flooring. Installed face 3.0 in, not a 4-inch nominal face.

1x4 T&G flooring, V-Joint reverse

Installed face 3 in. Same 3.0 in flooring face as 1x4 T&G. V-Joint on the reverse where that milling exists.

1x6 T&G flooring

Installed face 5 in. Wider T&G flooring. Installed face 5.0 in, not a 6-inch nominal face.

1x4 Smooth Face V-Joint

Installed face 3.5 in. Walls and ceilings. Installed face 3.5 in from catalog coverage, not a 4-inch nominal face.

1x6 Smooth Face V-Joint

Installed face 5.5 in. Walls and ceilings. Installed face 5.5 in from catalog coverage, not a 6-inch nominal face.

1x4 Beaded 1 Side V-Joint

Installed face 3.5 in. Porch ceilings and paneling. Bead on the show face; V-Joint on the reverse. Same 3.5 in face as 1x4 Smooth Face V-Joint.

Start the 1x4 and 1x6 tongue-and-groove flooring plan in square feet, then choose square feet (SF) or linear feet (LF) for the quote. The planner converts using the selected profile’s installed coverage width. The 1x4 S4S boards are quoted by linear foot. If you are comparing the flooring widths, remember that the finished face is narrower than the nominal board size.

Grades and appearance

Arkansas Yellow Pine product listings include #2, C&Btr, Premium & Btr grades. The grade depends on the selected product and dimensions. Include the grade from your plans or the product you want to match. We will confirm the grade, dimensions, and availability with your quote.

Installation and finishing

Bring the material into the installation space and allow it to acclimate before work begins. Your installer should determine the fastening method, finish, subfloor preparation, and other site-specific details. Timberline supplies the boards; installation is not included.
