Why Species Selection Matters
Choosing the right wood species is the single most important decision in any lumber project. Each species brings distinct characteristics — hardness, grain pattern, color, weather resistance, and workability — that determine how your finished project will look, feel, and perform over decades of use.
Exterior Projects
For decking, siding, and outdoor structures, you need species with natural durability. Our tropical hardwoods — Ipe, Cumaru, and Garapa — offer unmatched density and rot resistance without chemical treatment. For a domestic alternative, Cypress and Western Red Cedar provide excellent weathering characteristics with a lighter weight and lower cost.
Interior Projects
Interior paneling, ceilings, and accent walls call for species with visual warmth and clean milling. Eastern White Pine and European Spruce deliver bright, knotty or clear profiles in tongue-and-groove and nickel gap patterns. For flooring and stair parts, domestic hardwoods like White Oak, Hickory, and Walnut provide the hardness and beauty that high-end interiors demand.
